Movie Night: The Green Hornet 3D

This week is a special edition of Movie Night, in which we pay full price plus extra 3D fee for the pleasure of seeing a buffed up Seth Rogen and his wisecracking sidekick Kato fight crime and do good in The Green Hornet 3D. Call it a Valentine’s Day edition, call it an early St. Patrick’s Day edition, call it Shirley, just don’t call it late for supper. Join me at the 9:40 pm show of The Green Hornet at Regal Thornton Place to look silly in cheap sunglasses. Movie Night: Unstoppable

Just like me, and movie night in general, this week’s pick is Unstoppable, in which Captain Kirk and Malcolm X join forces in a (dare I say it) nonstop thrill ride, a sort of Speed with trains. Or something like that. I didn’t see any mention of a bomb, but I’m sure there will be at least one explosion. It is, after all, a Tony Scott joint. Join me at the 9:20 pm screening (of Unstoppable) at the Crest tonight!

Movie Night: Never Let Me Go

I don’t want to ruin it for you, but tonight’s choice has elements of horror mixed in with all the fresh faced beauty of Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley. Join us at the 9:35 pm screening of Never Let Me Go at the Crest tonight! Related links: Cloning Organ Harvesting

early morning bike ride with deb and michelle, we started at dawn and did about 25 miles alonge the burke. lovely cool bright beginning to the day.

home to breakfast with mom and mark, after which mom threw a piece of ham and some potatoes into the crock pot. then mom and i adjourned to the intiman to see crime and punishment. we'd reviewed a synopsis and worried about confusion, but learned the intiman had distilled it dramatically (pun intended). it was 90 minutes of agony. it wasn't BAD, it just wasn't our style.

we hit trader joe's for supplies on the way home and ate our yummy hammy dinner and mom headed back to the homestead. what a lovely full weekend.

dude, life is good. went for a walk with kim. mom came over. we shopped, as we often do. we went to see carrie fisher's wishful drinking at the rep, where we lucked into front row seats. she was charming and hilarious. we met mark at buca di beppo for a ludicrously huge dinner.

met mark and dave at the varsity to see gomorrah. gritty. realistic. ugly. as in, all the 'actors' participating were Not Pretty.

do i get extra credit for posting twice in one day?
realized i don't need to count the days since the date stamp will tell you when this is.

rachel maddow (goddess) tweeted the greatest youtube video ever.

and yes this counts as a blog entry.

day two, the saga continues. excruciatingly early carpool with dar, long workday, carpool home with mark, made pasta with leftover sauce from the prerace carb loading dinner back in november. added meatballs for additional protein, even though it had lots of sausage in it. i have an immodest appreciation for my pasta sauce, because i make it exactly the way i like it. you should try it sometime.

it's blog every day april (BEDA). i'm not signing up to participate, and i'll be pleased with myself if i manage to tweet every day in april, but i feel compelled to make the attempt. thanks to maureen johnson for the idea. and brace yourselves for a truly unpleasant experience, sharing the details of my existence.

this morning i went for a walk with kim and then to my early yoga class. since i'm working short wednesdays during my dual work assignment, i watched the jane austen book club in the afternoon. following that, i headed down to seatac to pick up gail and brendan since rick was at work, delivering them through a monsoon to their home.

like i said, thrilling.

here's how karma works:

i work every third weekend.
each new year, i sit down with a calendar and mark all the weekends i'm scheduled.
this year i felt smug, as i'm not scheduled to work any holiday weekends.
today i realized that i work on three weekends that i hold more important than holidays: the golden globes, the superbowl, and the oscars.
i had earlier discovered that i also work the weekends of two bike events i don't want to miss.

serves me right for feeling smug.

a poem from a dear friend and teacher, perhaps something to read when contemplating resolutions and the like. happy new year.

Forget about enlightenment.

Sit down wherever you are
and listen to the wind singing
in your veins.

Feel the love, the longing and
the fear in your bones.

Open your heart to who you
are right now, not who you'd
like to be. Not the saint you're
striving to become, but the
being right there before you,
inside you, around you.

All of you is holy.

You're already more and less
than whatever you can know.

Breath out, look in, let go.

-John Welwood

thanks, deirdre!
